Motion Skills: Online

May 8,2019 thru May 10,2019
Tuition: $1645.00

Now available to the public, NITA’s Online Motion Skills Program delivers our tried and true learning-by-doing method plus live feedback from our expert faculty directly to you in the comfort of your office or home. The three-day online structure of the program eliminates the need to take off work and incur travel expenses.

The Online Motion Skills Program is specifically designed to develop oral advocacy skills, as well as enhance an advocate’s knowledge of procedural and substantive law. This is achieved by combining focused pre-program prep with live on-screen practice. Attendees watch a discussion of motion skills, as well as a brief demo of those skills, to lay the groundwork for effective motion practice. The three core motions covered are:

• Motion to Compel, and a corresponding Motion for Protective Order

• Motion for Summary Judgement

• Motion for Preliminary Injunction and a Motion in Opposition to the Motion for Preliminary Injunction/TRO

The program is designed to provide advocates all across the country the opportunity to conveniently argue on behalf of their designated side multiple times and to receive immediate evaluation from experienced NITA faculty. Participants are then given time to reflect on these critiques and incorporate them into their next performance. Aside from gaining confidence in their skills, attorneys will learn the most efficient methods to organizing materials presented to the court, as well as how to make a persuasive and effective argument.

Whether you are a seasoned trial attorney, brand new to your practice, or anywhere in between - attending a NITA course, online or in-person, will give you the skills you need to be a better advocate for your clients. Our world-class faculty will work with you at an individual level, giving you the tools you need to succeed and helping you develop a style and presence that is unique to you.

Attendees are encouraged to wear "courtroom attire" during the program. Not only might a lawyer's appearance have an effect on the trier of fact, and is thus a matter of concern for the serious advocate, but it has been our experience that attendees dressed more formally than the usual CLE attire find themselves more easily “getting into character” and presenting a more polished performance.

In order to effectively improve an attorney’s skill in arguing motions, NITA’s online training combines focused pre-program preparation with live learning-by-doing screen time and critique.  In the weeks before the program, participants are assigned a side, provided a case file to review, and asked to identify the three strongest and weakest facts of the case.  Further pre-program preparation includes watching a video discussion during which an appellate court judge and two practitioners lay the groundwork for effective motion practice.  This, along with a brief video demonstration, allows the participants to hit the ground running and start arguing the motions and receiving immediate feedback from both the instructor and fellow participants on the first day of the program. The two day structure of the program enables attorneys to become more confident and adept by giving them the opportunity to argue multiple times as well as the chance to reflect on lessons learned and to incorporate the constructive comments into their next performance.

Program materials will be shipped approximately four weeks prior to program's start date from our fulfillment company Wolters Kluwer. The materials packaging will be from Wolters Kluwer not NITA so please watch out for this shipment.

If you sign up 2 weeks prior to the course you will receive the case file electronically and the textbook will be shipped UPS Ground to the address on your application.
