For the third year in a row, NITA teamed up with the Office of the Child's Representative (OCR) here in Boulder, CO for a public service program. The program took place February 20 - 22 and trained 17 attorneys on trial skills. OCR's Training Coordinator, Michelle Jensen, stated, "Our participants had a wonderful experience. While they were quite apprehensive, the faculty was phenomenal and very supportive. We very much appreciate that there is a public service option available."
Likewise, NITA Program Director Terre Rushton, who was as a faculty member in 2017's program, and served as program director in both 2018 and 2019, stated, "The OCR participants were open, adventurous, and eager to test the skills that they had and try out skills that were new to them."
The attendees as well had a very positive experience throughout the 3-day program. Some had taken a NITA program in the past and were looking to advance their trial skills with this program. "Every attorney who litigates should take the time to participate in this course. It's incredible. You learn really good skills in a truly supportive environment," stated one attendee.
Another attendee stated, "I truly valued the practice time this course provided. I really needed to be in front of people questioning witnesses to get my confidence up and then tackle technique."
