January 7 - 9, NITA had the opportunity to work with Catholic Legal Services of Miami (CLSM) for a public service program. This program was hosted at the Miami office of Greenberg Traurig and trained 34 attendees on trial skills. Led by Program Director, Michelle Mendez, this program featured NITA faculty such as Neil Kodsi, Jim Gailey, Mark Caldwell, and Victoria Neilson.
Kicking off 2019's 2019 public service programming, this program was met with high praise from its attendees.
"I really enjoyed the intensity of the program in that you have to roll up your sleeves and be ready to work," stated one attendee. Likewise, others stated they were impressed with the knowledge of the faculty members and felt it was a positive and instructive experience.
During the course of the three-day training, topics that were covered included: case analysis, direct and cross examination, refreshing recollection in immigration court, use of exhibits, impeachment, witness preparation, and closing arguments. Managing Attorney at CLSM, Kristie-Ann Padron, stated that it was wonderful working with everyone at NITA. We hope to continue growing our relationship with CLSM and thank you to all of the faculty who donated their time to make this program a success.
